YMO / Solid State Survivor [LP]

The second album by YMO, released on September 25, 1979. Featuring hit singles "Rydeen" and "Technopolis," as well as "Behind the Mask," later covered by Eric Clapton and Michael Jackson, it sparked a social phenomenon known as the techno-pop boom. The band's red People's Liberation Army-style costumes and techno haircuts on the album cover also drew attention, making YMO an icon of the era. The album topped the Oricon weekly and annual album charts in 1980, won the Best Album Award at the Japan Record Awards that year, and became a million-seller. It continues to be a masterpiece in Japanese rock/pop history.
